Safezóna

Redesign of the “Safe Space” in the Online World for Mental Health

The main issue was that teenagers and adults assisting others lacked relevant content. Based on this, we expanded the website to include these two target groups and created a target-group-specific help guide.

About the Project

Safezone is a website that provides mental health information. It is attempting to create a safe space for young people who are going through a difficult life situation and need to be sure that there is a safe place where they will be helped and not harmed. It also helps adults who spend time with someone like that, so-called mentors (e.g., lecturers, parents, teachers, scout leaders, etc.). It gathers reliable and professional information in one place and directs young people to organizations that can assist them.

Business Challenges:

  • Working with people who are experiencing psychological difficulties.
  • Three different target groups with distinct needs.
  • When writing texts, creating proposals, and so on, consider the users' difficult life circumstances.
  • A limited budget.

Responsibilities

I identify problem areas, create an information architecture, sketch solutions, and develop wireframes and prototypes. I oversee the entire project, from concept to working prototype, as well as the design process and increasing UX maturity. I collaborate with the product owner as well as web designers and graphic designers.

Understanding the Users

Our target audiences are children in the second grade (11–14 years old), and newly adolescents (15–19 years old), as well as so-called mentors (e.g., lecturers, parents, teachers, scout leaders, etc.).

Conducted quantitative research with adolescents

  • The proposal was based on data collected by Safezóna via a questionnaire from adolescents. A total of 3,692 people took part in the survey. Women made up 66.3 % of the respondents, men made up 30.1 %, and the remaining 3.6 % chose "other."

Adolescents deal with different topics
than elementary school children, so they need their own information.

Starting the Design

New target groups, as well as the ability to select them, have been added

Problem 1:

Adolescents do not have access to relevant information on Safezone.

Solution 1:
Create a new page with content
(topics, issues, what about it).

Problem 2:

Adolescents cannot easily access their information after it has been added.

Solution 1:
Add a page to the navigation.

Solution 2:
Add the option to choose a target group on the homepage.

Next Steps

The data will be analyzed using tools such as Google Analytics and HotJar

  • Analysis of website user behavior, including click tracking, time spent on individual pages, and navigation between them.
